The Livingston Campus will be transformed into a center of business and professional studies and a showcase for environmentally sustainable development. A preview of the project can be found on Rutgers Second Life.
The vision, as articulated by president Richard L. McCormick and former executive vice president for academic affairs Philip Furmanski, will establish a robust center for business and professional education on the Livingston Campus.
A working group of academic and administrative leaders examined the vision’s feasibility and endorsed a plan to locate business, management and labor relations, education, and social work programs together at Livingston. This will enhance the university’s ability to
- provide rigorous, career-oriented programs for students;
- deliver sophisticated advanced training to executives and top professionals;
- encourage collaborative research that addresses state needs; and
- foster economic development and social progress.
To complement this academic vision, the university has expanded and renovated the student center, opened a new dining commons, and is building additional student housing with the goals of creating an environmentally sound, sustainable, and attractive pedestrian-friendly community, one that combines intelligent development with accessible green space and a reliable transportation network.
